My Life as a Teen: Highschool, Self-esteem, Peer Pressure and Bullying

You are here: Home / Teenage Life / My Life as a Teen: Highschool, Self-esteem, Peer Pressure and Bullying

February 22, 2018 By Daveigh Henry

Hey guys! My name is Daveigh Henry and I’m 14 years old. I’m a freshman at Stranahan High school and a wonderful, but troublesome teen. I’m a fraternal twin and a daughter of Simone Price. I’m here to tell you the struggles of being a teen.

Being a teen in high school comes with a lot of problems and emotions such as friendships, relationships, and even school work. Balancing all these and getting through high school even middle school can be a hassle. You shouldn’t worry because it will all figure itself out. Through my life, I’ve gone through friends like an in and out store but it’s alright because you’ll have that one special friend that will be there for you. Always.

It’s amazing how life works, isn’t it? Being a straight-A student while balancing family and friends it’s hard, but I learned to go with the flow and everything will work out just fine.

If you are in middle school, transitioning to high school and are afraid, don’t be. I was just in that position. Scared of fitting in but that’s the thing, you don’t have to. Everyone is perfect in their own little way. In just a week I made friends and started to make a name for myself. Now everyone is different, so it might take a longer or shorter time, but you will make it.

Everyone is perfect in their own little way.

Now I know everyone has a self-esteem problem. That one thing you don’t like about yourself. If you don’t, then that’s amazing. If you do, you’re not alone. A couple of months ago I went through something where I didn’t like myself. I didn’t feel comfortable in my body. I realized that I have support from family and friends and that I didn’t need anyone else’s opinion.

Being in high school is amazing because everyone is different and no one is alike. Being in high school is a wonderful experience, but being a teen is even better. So don’t grow up too fast.

Peer pressure and bullies are things we experience as teens. Peer pressure is when you are pressured into doing something that you don’t want to do but you feel like you have to because your friends are doing it as well. We, as teens, have been there before. It’s just apart of growing up. Don’t do anything that your not comfortable with. This can lead to a lot of trouble that I know, you know, we all know that you don’t want to be in. Trust me. So just do you.

Bullies are never ok. So if you are being bullied talk to someone or write it down in a book or journal. Keeping your feelings inside sucks. Once you had enough, you’re gonna let it go (frozen pun intended) and explode on someone that you didn’t mean to explode on. Trust me, been there, done that. Lesson learned.

Expectations from people can be hard, especially from family. Where everyone wants you to be perfect and succeed in life. Let me tell you something, no one’s perfect. Not every time you’re gonna succeed. We all have our ups and downs. I have friends who tell me their parents want them to be lawyers and doctors. Now I can understand where they’re coming from. They want you to do better than them and make a life for yourself. A good life. Not everyone is cut out to be lawyers and doctors. To be honest I always wanted to be a veterinarian. I just love animals to death. If that’s what I wanna be then so it. At the end of the day, your gonna be living in YOUR house, paying YOUR own bills, with the job that YOU like. I rather am happy with a job I like then miserable with a job I hate. So that’s just that.

Overall, being a teen comes with a responsibility that we all have to take care of. This teen life is no joke. It’s just apart of growing up. The teen life can be really fun though. Everyone wants to have that freedom which only comes with being a teen. As a child, you can’t do anything and as an adult, your stuck with paying bills and the adult life. So being a teen is where it’s at in my opinion. I’m gonna enjoy all 4 years of high school and live to the fullest and do what I do best. Anyways, I got to go be a teen. You know how teen duties are.
